Gear

My equipment is quite basic, I support the idea that you don’t need to get the most expensive equipment to create nice images. It’s been also a way to push limits and learn more.

At the beginning I started using a point & shoot camera (Canon Powershot A70), but after one year I realized that something was missing, even if the A70 provides a great deal of control to experiment with. But for instance, one of the major things that I felt was missing was a proper viewfinder. Taking pictures through the screen is really not my style, plus the fact that I am a very spontaneous shooter and I needed something much faster. After some hesitation I decided to take a baby step and move onto a bridge camera. I did not take the leap onto the reflex world immediately, and somehow I am happy I didn’t since I learnt lots of things by doing so (not to mention that I was not sure of my budget, if you see what I mean). I moved onto  a Canon Powershot S2 IS (yeah, I am a Canonist!). Just like before, after some time I had to move on once I thought I was not getting what I needed from my camera, and I bought a Canon Rebel XTi in 2008 with which I’ve been shooting since.

In time, I’ve gathered a decent basic equipment, lenses and accessories. Here is the list:

  • Cameras
  • Lenses
    • Tamron 28-75mm, F2.8
    • Canon 50mm, F1.4 (super fast glass)
    • Lensbabies 2.0 (creative focus lens)
  • Bags
    • Kata Prism U Bag (I love this bag)
  • Accessories
    • Fancier Tripod (very good value for money)
    • Scanner Epson V500 Photo
  • Lighting:
    • Flash Canon 430Ex
    • Off-Camera TTL Chord Phottix
    • Yongnuo RF-602 Wireless Remote Trigger
    • EzyBox Softbox

I also do some medium format photography with a toy camera, Diana F+. This is one of my favorites although some times it is too unpredictable to rely on it when you really need to make sure you will get that shot. However, the surprise factor is one of the major addictive parts of this camera. Feel free to visit my Plastic Set in flickr.
